Not every technology hiring challenge can be solved by looking for professionals who already master a specific tool. In niche technologies, supply is limited and recruitment processes can become slow, expensive and unpredictable. In these cases, the ability to identify potential and develop skills can be as important as previous experience.
The challenge was to create a functional testing team to work with a specialised tool. The goal was to provide professionals able to integrate quickly into operations, develop Quality Assurance skills and achieve ISTQB certification during the first year of the assignment.
The challenge required a response combining recruitment, training and integration. It was necessary to select candidates with the right profile, create a learning path focused on the real needs of the operation and ensure that going live did not compromise quality. The client needed resources prepared for a specific technology, but also an approach that reduced the risk associated with hiring.
A tailored five-week training programme was designed. The first week included candidate selection with client participation. Over the following two weeks, participants received training in testing activities based on ISTQB principles. The fourth week was dedicated to the specialised tool, and the fifth focused on integration into the client’s operations.
The programme created a structured transition between learning and the real working context. The consultants’ progression towards ISTQB certification was also monitored, reinforcing technical development and team quality over time.
By the end of the programme, six consultants had been trained and integrated into the operation. The client gained a specialised team, supported by tailored training and a recognised certification path. The approach accelerated integration, strengthened operational capacity and created resources ready to contribute from the start in a specific technology domain.
This case shows how QA and testing needs in niche technologies can be addressed. Instead of relying exclusively on readily available talent, recruitment, technical academies and close support can be combined to build teams with relevant and sustainable skills.
